What are Los Charcones?

Los Charcones are a series of natural pools formed between volcanic rocks, located along the southwest coast of Lanzarote. These pools are filled with crystal clear water by the Atlantic tides, creating a stunning contrast between the turquoise blue of the water and the black of the volcanic formations.

Each pool has a different size and depth, so you'll find everything from small pools ideal for a relaxing swim to larger pools perfect for swimming. Their unspoilt and uncrowded character makes them a perfect refuge for those seeking tranquillity and contact with nature.

Where are Los Charcones located?

Los Charcones are located near Playa Blanca, in the municipality of Yaiza, in the southwest of Lanzarote. It is a little off the beaten tourist track, which contributes to its charm as a quiet, uncrowded destination.

The Los Charcones area covers several kilometres of coastline, with different access points to the pools. Some of the most popular Charcones are just a short drive from Playa Blanca, making them easy to visit if you are staying in this part of the island.

How do you get to the natural pools of Los Charcones?

Access to Los Charcones is easy, but it is important to bear in mind that there are no specific signs or tourist infrastructures in the area. Here's how to get there:

  • By car: from Playa Blanca, take the LZ-2 road heading north and then follow the signs to the Pechiguera lighthouse. From here, take a dirt road that leads to the coast. Although the route is not tarmacked, it is accessible to most vehicles if driven with caution.
  • On foot: if you love hiking, you can walk from Playa Blanca. The tour lasts approximately 1 hour and offers spectacular views of the ocean and the volcanic coastline.

If you opt for the walking option, we recommend wearing comfortable footwear suitable for walking on rocks. Don't forget water, food and sun protection, as there are no services in the area. And check the tides before visiting Los Charcones, as some pools are safer and more accessible at low tide.
